Reading public records: what an indictment does and does not establish

The 2023 charging document is an important public record, but it is not a verdict or a substitute for the full court file.

A grand-jury indictment formally alleges charges and moves a case forward in Superior Court. It is an accusation; the prosecution still bears the burden of proving charges in court, and a defendant remains entitled to the presumption of innocence.

The publicly available indictment in this case is included in the resource library because it is a primary document. Readers should distinguish it from trial testimony, judicial rulings, and verdicts, each of which has a different legal role.

When this site adds court material, it will label the document type, date, issuing body, and link. Sealed records, private health information, and unverified copies will not be presented as public documentation.
